Maria Norseth Garli
SILVER LIGHT
This is Maria’s second album on Øra fonogram, following Golden from 2020.
Release: February 12 2021
Her music can be described as an experimental form of singer-songwriter.
Just nine months after her critically acclaimed debut album, Golden, Maria Norseth Garli will release a new album, Silver Light. Five songs that contain the whole spectrum of dynamics, emotions and intensity. It's a powerful release that shows Garli's devotion to being in something for a long time. The album continues in her characteristic experimental singer / songwriter style, but with more "power". While Golden was intensely low-key, Silver Light is big and energetic.
...Still, the music is about the same thing - slowness, simplicity and the organic. The two albums are without a doubt related, however, Silver Light is much more rock than its predecessor. There are repetitive riffs and melodies, performed with razor-sharp concentration and calm. There is a magnetism between on the one hand the tough and heavy and on the other hand rawness and strength in both performance and in the music itself. The release is also a good picture of how Garli works without being bound by genre, but rather works in general with her own musical form of expression. With her on the record, she has two musicians who have been involved in her own work since her studies at the University of Stage and Music in Gothenburg: Vegard Lauvdal on drums and Kim Aksnes on synth and trumpet. Garli himself treats guitar and song, and has written all the lyrics and music.
Golden received a lot of great feedback and was, among other things, selected as one of this year's best Norwegian albums for 2020 by the international magazine Beehype.
